Filmed oral history interview with Al Wasson on November 9, 2005 at the Moraine Park Museum. This interview is number 4 of 12 in a series of interviews completed in 2005. Produced by Nick Molle Productions of Estes Park Topics discussed include his arrival in Estes Park in 1990, working on the library board, his general involvement with libraries and the new library in town, involvement with Town government, the Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority, changes to Estes Park, non-profit organizations, and the benefits of living in the area. Notable memories include: --Loving libraries as a child and becoming very involved in the library when he first moved to Estes Park --Serving on the board of the foundation for the library district for two years --Serving on the board of trustees for ten years --Experienced many important changes in library since its original founding by the Estes Park Woman's Club with the biggest change being moving from a paper-based library to evolution of the computer-based library --Having one computer to now having over 50 computers --Differences in book-based libraries and information-based libraries --Community usage has increased dramatically since the 1989-1990 expansion --Good relationship with school district --Most positive change for the library and community is almost unfettered access to the entire world of information --Opportunities now for the library in more involvement with Hispanic community --Involved with town government in telecommunications task force especially upgrades in the telephone service in the early 1990s with US West (now Qwest) --Involved quite extensively with the Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority and was chair in 2005 --Personal satisfaction with contribution on decision to build and design Performance Park --Biggest change in Estes he has experienced is growth in population --Involved with the Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center helping close to 100 nonprofits groups with financials and grant requests --Feels characteristics of Estes Park so positive thanks to business community involvement |
