Letter written by Jim Snively, who worked for Rocky Mountain Transportation Company in Estes Park in the 1940s to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Snively in Rockford, Illinois. Postmarked Denver, Colo. September 20, 1946. Letter includes letterhead from Grand Lake Lodge. Contents include discussion of weather and snow on Trail Ridge Road; cancellation of truck and bus trip to Grand Lake due to weather; Jim going to Bear Lake frequently; stopping in Horseshoe Park to hear elk bugling; his job and fellow workers at the top of Trail Ridge; a Chamber of Commerce convention at the Stanley Hotel (occuring at time of writing), last week a doctor's convention at the Stanley; Bear Lake Lodge, Grand Lake Lodge, and the Chalet Ranch closed for season; his payment and where it may have been sent; people they know from Illinois; going to see Cleopatra and dances on Saturday nights. |
