Description |
Production of the quilt was sponsored by the Estes Park Area Historical Museum (Presently the Estes Park Museum) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Estes Park. Cotton fabric squares 8 X 8 on blue cotton background, gray on gray leaf print cotton backing, with quilt stuffing between the two layers, tufted with pale yellow 3 ply yarn. Quilt block designs incorporation of Estes Park local schools, organizations, individuals, figures of wildlife of the area (hummers, squirrels, deer), flowers, names of founders and workers at EPAHM, blocks typical of quilting of the time. Some squares are signed in embroidery with initials or names, some in paint, some in colored pencil, one worked with cut letters in metallic paper, some unsigned. Project supervised and assembled by Sybil Barnes with help of other volunteers. Blocks created by Estes Park Extension Homemakers, preschoolers, Lennie Bemiss, Roberta Kice, Marsha Snell, Scandinavians, Trail Ridge Rock and Mineral Club, Cathy Moran, Amy Plummer, Sybil Barnes, Carol Johnson, D. Zelhofer, RTM, DCP, some squares unsigned. Blue cotton edging with 30 patch squares; light blue cotton back cloth with floral print design; hand stitched with medium blue cotton thread; yellow poly yarn ties at each corner of a square; cotton batting; squares from top left to right are: floral patchwork E.P. Homemakers Extension, Marsha Snell, Special Me Preschool, floral patchwork, Special Me Preschool, Carol Johnson - EP Schools, D. Zelhofer, Chipmunk, floral patchwork, E.P.
