Mariner's Compass, circa 1870. Pieced cotton. Block style, bordered and sashed. Thin cotton batt. Straight grain binding. Coarse, plain weave unbleached cotton backing. White cotton with cotton batting. Squares with a sunburst circle design (Mariner's Compass design). Squares are edged in pink and design is in blue, yellow, pink and brown. Quilt edges are bound in blue except for top edge, which is bound in pink. Quilt is handmade and heavily quilted. Marks: Written in corner is "CHB." Has laundry marks - "CHB" "Bond". Date is approximate. |
