He also was a poet of some merit as you see. In his early years he had lived in Vinton Iowa which had been the home town of my grandparents, my parents, and myself. Joe and Gretchen Carrier were visiting us here in Fort Morgan and we spent a day in Estes and called on "Charley". Gretchen's mother, Mrs. Santmyer, had known him in Vinton. He seemed very pleased and presented Gretchen and me each with an autographed copy of his poems. I thot you would like this, to add to your books on Colorado which I had given you a few years before I left 802 prospect. Mother 1972" Postcard 2007.041.002 and poem 2007.041.003 found inside |
